The main function of notary is to validate the signature on documents, by confirming that the signature is signed in presence of him and the person that signed is the genuine one. If you want to become notary of public then you should know that it is not vey difficult to become a notary. Once you have filled your application for the Notary next thing is you have to submit it to the commissioning authority with the required registration fee. After submitting the application with the registration fee, they will scrutinize your application for any discrepancy and if all is ok then they will call you on some date. On that day, you have to appear in front of the commissioning authority and take oath, that's it. After taking the oath you are officially appointed as the notary of the public and authorize you to use the government seal when you become the witness. These are the basic steps to become the notary.

However, some States require that every candidate of notary should take up a short course and pass. This course will teach them their duties and responsibilities more clearly.

Some States also demand that every notary of public should obtain a bond called 'Notary bond" before their approval. Even though Notary of Public enjoying good respect from the general public, they are not allowed to practice the law or give legal advice. The only duty of Notary of public is become a witness.
